A main line leak causes significant water loss and often creates a geyser or large flooding area. Main line pipes are always under pressure, so leaks are active anytime the water supply is on.

A lateral line leak only leaks when that zone is running. You'll see water pooling near one of your zones — the repair is straightforward with a pipe cut and coupling.

A leak at a fitting (tee, elbow, or coupling) is usually caused by a bad glue joint, a cracked fitting, or a threaded connection that wasn't sealed properly.

Freeze damage often cracks multiple pipes, fittings, valves, and backflow preventers simultaneously. A thorough inspection of the entire system is needed before repairs begin.
